Change of WKD voltage involving Trakcja PRKiI

Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa (WKD) has completed the change of voltage in the overhead line equipment from 660 V to 3 kV. The process of the preparation and switching-over to the new supply system, which had been going on for several years, was completed almost entirely by Trakcja PRKiI S.A.

The new 3 kV DC supply system for the WKD line was officially started on the night between 27 and 28 May, 2016. The related works were divided into several stages, and they were followed by a series of tests and trial switching-over operations, as a result of which the operating trains could be supplied with 3 kV voltage.

The upgraded supply system is based on two traction substations in Pruszków and Grodzisk Mazowiecki and on a track section cabin in Podkowa Leśna for the 3 kV system, which have replaced the previous five 660 V substations. The facilities include, for instance, DC switchgear assemblies manufactured by Trakcja PRKiI and MV switchgear assemblies, rectifier units and remote control systems. The total price of the contract for the manufacture, delivery and installation of equipment and system commissioning, signed in November 2012, was over PLN 10.3 million (inc VAT).
