Trams of Łódź to be powered by state-of-the-art substations

Trakcja PRKiI installed three traction substations for Łódzkie Tramwaje. All the facilities are equipped with devices manufactured by Trakcja PRKiI.

In Łódź, tram lines in the area Śródmieście Południowe, Widzew and Olechów are powered from traction substations located at Piłsudski Street, Parowozowa Street and Hetmańska Street. The first two facilities have been completely renovated and equipped with modern equipment, while the substation located at Hetmańska Street is a wholly brand new facility.

Each substation is part of the state-of-the-art power system of the several kilometres-long tram catenary. These comprehensive and self-operating facilities are connected to a central dispatch, ensuring high reliability during operation. Each substation includes dozens of devices whose core is switchgear MRT-06 designed and manufactured by Trakcja PRKiI S.A. The switchgear has been successfully implemented in power supply systems of many tram lines in Poland, including the new tram network commissioned into service in Olsztyn last year. In all the facilities, a total of 3 direct current switchboards, 3 medium-voltage switchboards and and 7 rectifier units, 3 compact rectifier units and 2 connectors were installed – together 63 cabinets filled with hi-tech electronics.

Substation buildings have been completely protected with such systems as alarm systems, video surveillance and air conditioning to maintain optimal conditions of operation for devices located inside. The value of this contract amounted to more than PLN 10.5 million.
