The ŁMR technical facilities are ready
Trakcja PRKiI S.A. is the general contractor for the technical facilities of the Łódź Municipal Railways (ŁMR). The construction works were completed in September and were followed by technical acceptance inspections in the different trades. In just 12 months - the groundbreaking ceremony took place on 11 October 2013 - a fully furnished building, 140 meters long and 40 meters wide, was erected.
The facility consists of four parts: a repair and service pair with three tracks, a washing station part with the fourth track, an office-welfare part, and a warehouse. The facilities are furnished with many state-of-the-art pieces of equipment for daily service and current maintenance of the ŁMR trains.
On the individual tracks, the following pieces of equipment are installed: an underfloor wheel lathe, a weight for measuring the wheel pressure, a chute, and a station for filling the sandboxes. The environment-friendly washing station also performs such processes as deicing, removal of feces, and supplying water.
The washing station, located inside the ŁMR facilities building, is the first piece of equipment of this type used for rolling stock. Washing of a train takes no more than 30 minutes and, due to safety procedures associated with, among others, switching off the current in the overhead contact line, the entire process takes about one hour. The shape of the brushes and the length of their individual parts are appropriate for the shape of the vehicle, which guarantees precise washing.
The cost of the construction exceeded 55.2 million zlotys net.
