Trakcja PRKiI to reinforce the soil and the structure of a railway embankment near Malbork

The reinforcement of the soil and structure of a railway embankment and of the foundation of the access road as well as the elimination of interferences are additional works that are to be performed under the LCS Malbork contract. The task is carried out within the "design and construct" system.

Trakcja PRKiI will perform additional works on a railway embankment in Jurkowice under the LCS Malbork contract on the Warszawa-Gdynia railway line. The scope of works covers, among other things, additional geological surveys of the soil, preparation of a multi-discipline detailed design, elimination of interferences, e.g. between telecommunications installations and low voltage networks. The main task will involve the reinforcement of a 200-metre long section of soil and railway embankment. The height of the embankment within the construction site reaches 10 million. The reinforcement will be made with the use of three kinds of soil reinforcement: 324 CFA piles 80 cm in diameter, 844 displacement piles 40 cm in diameter and compaction grounting at 1280 points.

During the performance of modernisation works, complex soil and water conditions having a direct influence on the stability of the railway embankment were identified. According to the performed analyses, the soil contains low-bearing organic soils: peats and aggradate muds at the depth of 17 million. The increase of the railway line parameters from 70-120 km/h to 200 km/h requires additional reinforcement of the embankment and the soil underneath.

Some of the works will also involve reinforcement of the soil under the designed access road in Jurkowice. The scope of works will cover the construction of 600 displacement piles 40 cm in diameter, on which the structure of the designed road will be founded.

The works to be performed until November 2014 were evaluated at PLN 20.9 million net.
