Photo coverage from Łódź Widzew – another stage of works commenced
From 15 June, trains will enter a modernized track layout at the station, and passengers will have at their disposal a new covered platform no. 3. Trakcja PRKiI is commencing further construction of the underpass, platform, as well as track layout and traction network at Łódź Widzew.
Passengers will use new facilities for the first time, i.e. the platform and the roof. Trains will use new tracks with a modern power and train traffic steering system. Access to platform no. 3 was demarcated with a special footpath running from the station to the east.
Thus, the modernization stage has ended, which in phase 1 required disassembly of over 28 km of tracks and 60 crossovers, as well as extensive ground and dewatering works. 3,125 of dump trucks were loaded with dirt. Instead, 66,000 tons of chippings were embedded, i.e. over 1600 wagons.
Another stage of works will be connected with constructing a platform roof as well as platform no. 2, completing the construction and equipping the underpass with lifts, building a slipway for persons with limited mobility. At the same time, another platform no. 1 will be built, with two edges and length of 400 m. In addition, the tracks and traction network relating to existing platforms no. 1 and 2 will be replaced. The functionality and aesthetics of areas directly adjacent to the railway station will be improved. An important aspect is regulating the water and sewage management in the station area through developing devices serving environmental protection. Directly under the superstructure, a special layer will be built, which limits the influence of vibrations on residential premises.
After the modernization, the station will be equipped with 3 platforms, 10 tracks, of which 6 will be assigned for passenger trains, 2 for commodity, and 2 for preparation of trains. The Łódź Widzew station area will have 18 km of tracks along with traction network, and 53 junctions.
