Radom East - Trakcja's DNA - integrating rail with road and airport component

On 28 April 2023, Trakcja signed a contract with the Municipal Roads and Transport Authority in Radom and PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. for the reconstruction of a viaduct over railway tracks and the construction of a new Radom Wschodni railway stop.

The new overpasses, more than 280 m long, will be built in place of the existing structure along Żeromskiego and Lubelska Streets and will be integrated with the new Radom Wschodni stop. The facilities developed will create a transport hub for passengers arriving from Warsaw and Lublin to the Radom airport and will make it easier for Radom residents to get around the city.

- This is an important moment for the residents of Radom and rail passengers, especially those who will be using Radom Airport, as the construction of viaducts and a better railway structure will make it easier to use Polish railways for daily commuting to work, schools and the airport. The new investment in Radom will provide a multimedia link between road, rail and air transport. Making efficient use of budgetary and EU funds, we are consistently improving transport links for Mazovia's residents – said Andrzej Bittel, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Government Plenipotentiary for Combating Mobility Exclusion.

The scope of the contract includes, but is not limited to:

  • construction of modern viaducts with convenient access to the railway stop;
  • construction of a covered, approximately 300-metre-long railway platform;
  • reconstruction of pavement on roads, exits, sidewalks and cycle paths on and around viaducts;
  • adaptation of infrastructure for the blind, visually impaired and people with reduced mobility:
  • construction of bus stops;
  • construction of a new link between ul. Średnia with ul. Metalowa and ul. Kaszubska;
  • installation of acoustic screens, lifts and escalators, LED lighting, sound and monitoring.

 - The project to build flyovers along Żeromskiego Street and along Lubelska Street over the railway infrastructure manager's tracks is the DNA of Trakcja S.A., i.e. the integration of rail, road and airport infrastructure. The scope of the investment includes the construction of new viaducts, the construction of a functional hub and the Radom Wschodni stop. A key element of the project is the construction of viaducts with a total length of 282 m, 7 spans, the largest span of 48 m, two spans of 37 m each and 4 spans of 40 m each. We are well prepared for implementation. As a contractor, we take the issues related to difficulties to heart so that they are the least burdensome for the local community. An example is the use of the CFA technology, i.e. piles formed with a continuous drill in the construction of the foundation of the viaduct supports. It is a technology of drilled piles concreted wet in the ground. The piles are drilled and concreted in one continuous process using a 15-metre-long spiral drill, then the pile reinforcement is inserted. The advantage of this technology is low noise and no vibration. An important addition to the project is the railway component, i.e. an island platform with a length of 300 m, the height of the platform edge above the rail head is 760 mm. The technical and functional parameters of the platform meet the requirements of TSI, i.e. technical specifications for interoperability – explained the technical aspects, Artur Szumisz, President of the Management Board of Trakcja S.A.

The construction of the viaducts, worth approximately PLN 178 million gross, is scheduled to take 24 months. A significant part of the funds will be covered by the city, part of the money comes from the Polski Ład, part from the Government's Local Investment Fund, the financing of the railway part was provided by PKP PLK.

In December 2022. Trakcja commissioned a viaduct over the tracks in Skarżysko-Kamienna, and in March 2023 a constructed viaduct in Łowicz.
