Commissioning at the Łódź Municipal Railway's technical facilities
The commissioning processes at the technical facilities of Łódź Municipal Railway run at full steam. A modern train wash has already been opened inside the assembly room and washed the first unit as part of the test.
Trakcja PRKiI S.A. is the general contractor of the technical facilities of Łódź Municipal Railway. The construction works were completed in September and the commissioning processes with respect to units in particular industries started. The washing station inside the assembly room of the technical facilities of Łódź Municipal Railway is the first such unit used for operating the rolling stock. The washing of trains takes maximum 30 minutes, whereas the whole process due to security reasons related to i.a. power cut-off in the railway system shall be extended to approximately one hour. The shape of brushes and length of their particular parts were adjusted to the shape of unit thanks to which it is thoroughly cleaned.
On the first stage, the number of carriages in a train are covered with soap bubbles, washed with 6 brushes on 3 layers and then rinsed with demineralised water. The water runs in closed circuit, which means that after washing the train, it goes to a sedimentation tank with capacity of 20 m3 outside the assembly room, where it is cleaned and reused. In order to wash the train with 5 carriages, 1,000 litres of water shall be sufficient. The cost of water and washing agents necessary for washing one unit is PLN 20-25.
It is worth mentioning that the water management process in the washing station is ecological. The water used for train washing is oxygenated two times and additionally enriched with special nutrient medium for bacteria that decompose organic compounds and petroleum products washed away from the surface of the train. The whole process is fully automated.
