Trakcja PRKiI will modernize the system for tram line steering in Toruń
The Toruń City Communication Agency (Miejski Zakład Komunikacji w Toruniu) and Trakcja PRKiI S.A. signed an agreement for the modernization of the system for steering the cross-town tram line adjusted to low-floor trams. Thanks to the investment valued at almost PLN 7 million net, the reliability will increase of the rail transport in the city with almost 200 thousand residents.
Within the scope of the contract, Trakcja PRKiI S.A. will design and modernize the system for steering the cross-town tram line in Toruń. Works will be conducted on the following traction stations: "Central” at ul. Rynek Wełniany 6, "Easterm" przy ul. Wschodnia, "Western" at the confluence of Reja and Broniewskiego streets, and in the depot base at ul. Sienkiewicza. Stations will be equipped with devices enabling their automation and adjustment to remote steering. Additionally optical fibre connections are planned, connected to the existing and planned telecom network.
The principal goal of the works is to raise the reliability of the city rail transport by way of applying remote steering systems, which enable full control over the operation of devices in traction stations. This will also enable achieving significant financial savings, increase the safety for personnel, and reduce the duration of interferences in operation of devices. For this purpose, relevant remote steering systems will be installed at stations and the steering centre, ensuring communication between individual facilities. All works should be completed before the end of July 2015. The tram network in Toruń consists 43.8 km of single tracks, including mainly two-track lines. The entire tram network is fed from three traction stations: Western, Central, and Eastern.
The offer of Trakcja PRKiI S.A. in the amount of PLN 6,946,850.00 net was deemed the most beneficial from among the four offers submitted within the procedure conducted by Miejskie Zakłady Komunikacyjne in Toruń.
