Our Lithuanian company will rebuild the switchgear

On 12th September 2022, our subsidiary AB “Kauno tiltai” signed a design and construction contract with Litgrid AB and AB “Ignitis gamyba” for the reconstruction of the 330 kV switchgear of the 330/110/10 kV Kruonis Pumped Storage Plant – the only such plant in the Baltic countries (KHAE).

The net value of the contract was nearly 52 million EUR (244,511,287.57 PLN). The commencement of work is scheduled for the end of May 2023, and the completion is due for December 2026.

During the implementation of the contract, all devices, foundations and metal structures of the 330 kV switchgear will be replaced, and the section of the overhead line from the 330 kV switchgear to the first autotransformer will be rebuilt. At the same time, relay protection devices will be renovated and new control panels will be built.

The scope of work includes also the separation of the fourth generator of the Kruonis Pumped Storage Plant from the first three generators to a separate connection in the substation, thus increasing the reliability and flexibility of the plant and reducing the risk of energy loss in all generators in the case of a short circuit.

These changes will reinforce the stability of the Lithuanian electricity transmission network and help to operate smoothly in one network with Western Europe.

The Kruonis Pumped Storage Plant is an energy warehouse for the entire power grid of Lithuania, providing 94% of reserves.
