Trams have returned to Krakowska street in Cracow
On August 17 this year, trams returned to Dietla and Krakowska crossing in Kazimierz district, and they pass Józefa Piłsudskiego bridge.
During the construction works, a defensive wall of a settlement has been discovered near Wisła River, before the Kazimierz city had been established and stone Gliniana gate, so called Krakowska gate, which was one of the Kazimierz city gates and Królewski bridge abutment and then its further section.
Within the scope of the task, Trakcja has performed:
- modernization of 3 km single track - completely without ballast,
- modernization of a turnout - so called ¾ of a star (6 turnouts and rhombus-type crossings at the crossing of Krakowska – Dietla – Stradomska streets),
- implementation of the switch control and heating system, drainage of the road and track-way,
- restoration of the existing geometry of track-ways and turnout keeping the existing array,
- building of the track-way along Krakowska street of prefabricated track slabs of rhombus texture and raised platforms of Vienna-style,
- widening of sidewalks along Krakowska street - transfer of vehicular traffic to track-way,
- replacement of about 3.5 km traction network installed on new stylish traction pillars,
- modernization of the Piłsudski bridge connecting Kazimierz and Podgórze districts, including: replacement of bearings, parts of the steel structural elements and most of the rivets, sand-blasting, painting, installation of illumination,
- modernization of all underground infrastructure; (telecommunication network, sewerage, gas and energy lines),
- protection and modernization of power and telecommunication network, ticket machine supply, small architecture.
The project in numbers:
- 94.6 million total value of the task in PLN,
- 3 km length of tracks for replacement or modernization,
- 25 000 tons weight of the used aggregate,
- 290 tons weight of new rails,
- 10 500 m2 surface of vibration insulation mats,
- 5 200 m2 surface of porphyry slabs,
- 3 200 m3 volume of necessary concrete,
- 147.5 m length of modernized bridge,
- 100 000 pcs. number of rivet holes on metal bridge structure,
- 26 000 pcs. screws,
- 5 km of protective pipes,
- 500 tons of abrasive (cleaning the steel structure of the bridge),
- 80 tons of steel (replacement of corroded bridge elements),
- 10 tons amount of necessary paint to paint the bridge,
- 100 tons of scaffolding for bridge works completion,
- 8 tons of resins for sidewalks,
- 1.5 tons of sealing material,
Cost of the whole investment was almost 95 million PLN
