The work on the Radom railway line is going to speed up even more

The Warsaw Okęcie Station is changing fast. The work on the section is being carried out 24 hours a day. The scope of work will be further widened as a result of obtaining another building permit, covering the section from the Warsaw Okęcie Station to the Piaseczno Station.

As of the date of signing the contract, the preparations for the contract were well advanced. We had had the necessary equipment already gathered, two sets of site's temporary facilities prepared and a contract office operating – says Robert Kuczyński, Trakcja PRKiI's communication director.

The first phase was completed in just 10 days. It involved construction of a temporary railway platform, lighting and reconstruction of more than half a kilometre of track with overhead electrification system, allowing us to switch the traffic and start the next stage. In the second phase – lasting for about 10 weeks – we began to demolish the old platform and open-sided shelter, and dismantle tracks and overhead electrification system. We disassembled approx. 6 km of tracks and built nearly 3.5 km of a new track and electrification system. At the same time, culverts and the bridge over Służewiec Stream were rebuilt, and a series of drainage works were done. Also, most footbridge supports, ultimately linking the railway platform to the existing pedestrian crossing over route S79 and Wirażowa street, were built.

The third phase of construction will start in December, and passengers will be then already able to use the new platform. The company will continue the track-related, network installation and construction works, and with obtaining another building permit for the six-kilometre railway line section from Warszawa Okęcie to Piaseczno the scope of tasks will be expanded.

The fulfilment of existing tasks did not affect capacity of the station, so no noticeable inconvenience was found. The work causing disruption of traffic, such as aggregate delivery and unloading, is only carried out at night. The area around the Okęcie station will be a key logistic point until the end of the contract. We have gathered in one place all the necessary road and rail equipment, specialized work vehicles for track and overhead line work, and necessary supplies of aggregate, sleepers and other materials, allowing us to quickly carry out the work – adds Robert Kuczyński.
